Cedar Grove held on to top Verona 40-37 on Saturday to secure the Holiday Tournament Championship. Mike Pronesti lead the panthers with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
A 13-point second quarter allowed Cedar Grove to pull ahead early on the heels of a 10-2 run, eventually commanding a 22-21 lead by halftime.
Pronesti led the charge for Cedar Grove’s offense, scoring 18 points, with 11 points during the second period. He also contributed 13 rebounds and two steals.
Ventola made it into double digits as well, scoring 17 points for Cedar Grove (4-for-9). And knocking down key Free Throws down the stretch to ice the win over rival Verona. Aiding in the effort for Cedar Grove were Luca Greco (3 points, 1 rebound, 2 blocks). Dennis Mitola, who had 2 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals contributed in way that is not seen on the stat sheet. With a unbelievable tough defensive assignment he held Verona guard Joe Zecchino in check who had been averaging 26 points a game.

The Victory improves the Panthers to 4-1 on the year with a 3 game home stretch coming up this week with West Essex, Arts, and Bernards coming to town.
